The Derwent Valley Sheepdog club has just hosted their second trial of the year and the third of the new Tas working sheepdog Associations 2020 trial calendar. Once again challenging weather conditions were in play and gumboots and wet weather gear was worn by all. Saturday saw the Novice competition take place and was won by a Kelpie called Buck, worked by Peter Allan of Westbury. Sunday saw a field of 35 dogs compete in the Open event with a high standard of work from dogs and handlers with a minimum score of 88 being required to qualify for the four-dog final. Top score of 93 was earned in the heats by Damien Jones with Jamieson’s Freeze. In the final the sheep proved to be a difficult challenge for all competitors with Lee Jamieson and Jamieson’s Kimi running a 90 to take out a 21-point victory, with second place going to Martin Waddingham and Nolan’s Digga, just 6 points ahead of John Bramich and Getaway Rattler in third place. The Improver class also took place on Sunday and was taken out by Mary Sotheran and That’ll Do Percy
